Presentation of the book «Ekaterinburg: the legacy of Constructivism» was held on Thursday, 4 June 2009, at the Museum of History of Ekaterinburg.
The publication is designed to draw attention to the peculiarity of the unique architectural heritage of the city. «Ekaterinburg today is one of the biggest «museums of Constructivism» in the world», - said the author of comments and the book text Leonid Smirnov at the presentation. According to him, constructivism is a unique architectural achievement of the XX century, synthesized in itself the experience of previous eras. In 1920-1930's Ekaterinburg, which became the political and cultural capital of the Middle Urals, had become a laboratory of progressive architecture, connecting innovative ideas of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Tomsk architectural schools. Moreover, now Ekaterinburg is practically the only one of the major cities of Russia has continued the tradition of constructivism.
In the collected edition there are about 300 photographs depicting various samples of constructivist style in Ekaterinburg. In addition, the book presents children's fantasy on the theme of Constructivism; these are the students' works from grammar school number 120.
The book «Ekaterinburg: the legacy of Constructivism» was published in the series «Cities of the Urals», which had already presented the books of Nizhny Tagil, the cities of the Kama; and in 2006 the series had a circulation of «Ekaterinburg: the pearl of the cultural heritage».
