On the 6th of June, 2009, at 13:00, at the Memorial to the Victims of Political Repressions (the 12th kilometer of Moskovsky tract) a civil funeral for lost from repression is to be held.

There are not only Ekaterinburg dwellers to come, but also people from other cities and regions. Administration of the city of Ekaterinburg assisted and supported the Association of Victims of Political Repressions in the preparation of the event. On this day the Memorial will meet those who have experienced all the hardships of a totalitarian regime, as well as the children of those who shared all the burden and agony with their parents.

In Ekaterinburg there live about 6 thousand rehabilitated and more than 2 thousand victims of political repressions (children and wives of repressed). Basically these are the persons who suffered from Stalin's repressions in 1930-1940's.

In Ekaterinburg, beginning with 1991, annual events are held to honor the memory of victims of political repressions. Traditionally twice a year the City Administration of Ekaterinburg together with the Association of Victims of Political Repressions organize an outing for relatives of the victims in the years of repressions to the 12th kilometer of Moskovsky tract.

The memorial to victims of political repressions in 1930-1950's is located near one of the mass graves repressed. It is paid by the means of the city budget. The decision for the opening of a unique memorial at the 12th kilometer of Moskovsky tract was signed in 1993.

Inauguration of the memorial was held on the 26th of October, 1996. There were the names, dates of birth and death of more than 18,5 thousand repressed citizens of Sverdlovsk Region and Perm Region, placed on the marble slabs of the memorial.

In June 2003, with the support of the Administration of the city of Ekaterinburg, a monument to those who died nameless in prisons and camps of GULAG was opened at the memorial.

Every year they order busses to organize an outing to the memorial for the relatives of the victims, which are paid by the means of the city budget. Many older people on that day have the only opportunity to visit the graves of their close and loved ones.
