The Leaders of the SCO Signed the Declaration of Ekaterinburg

Heads of SCO Member States on the outcome of the meeting on Tuesday signed a declaration of Ekaterinburg, the main political document, which assesses the current international situation.

The declaration indicates the irreversibility of the trend towards real multipolarity and enhancement of the regional aspect in solving global problems. The document emphasizes the importance of strengthening the legal foundations of international relations and enhancing the coordinative role of UN in world affairs, confirms commitment to the principles of maintaining peace on terms of equal security for all States without exception, and adjusting international and regional conflicts by political and diplomatic measures.

The parties expressed support for the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, for increased cooperation in the control and management of international finance, preserving the stability of economy.

The Declaration states that international cooperation is the only tool in solving the urgent issues of our time, including energy and food security, climate changes, financial crisis. Leaders of the SCO countries consider it necessary to more active participation of the member states in the management of global processes.

As a result of the summit it was also adopted a joint communiqué, which identified practical steps to develop cooperation within the SCO framework in particular areas.

SCO also signed the Convention against terrorism, which is a document developing the normative and legal basis of the Organization taking stock of the requirements of time and changing the specifics of the new challenges and threats.

The Heads of State adopted a cooperation program of SCO members in the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism for the years 2010-2012, the decision to provide Sri Lanka and Belarus the status of the SCO dialogue partners, an agreement on training for anti-terrorist forces of SCO members, and the agreement on cooperation in the field of ensuring international information security.

The functions of the presidency in the SCO summit, after the completion of Ekaterinburg meeting, will be taken by Uzbekistan. Dmitry Medvedev congratulated the President of Uzbekistan with this mission, wished success to Uzbek colleagues. «We will actively support Uzbekistan in carrying out this work»,- said Dmitry Medvedev.
