The ambassador of Great Britain in Russia Anne Pringle arrived in Ekaterinburg

The ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Great Britain in Russia Anne Pringle arrived in Ekaterinburg for acquaintance with course of socio-economical development of the region. Today the British diplomat met with the governor of Sverdlovsk oblast Alexander Misharin.

At the meeting Alexander Misharin told the ambassador about social and economic development of the region. In particular, he noticed that the region started overcoming negative consequences of world economic complexities. In the Middle Urals there are all prospects for increasing industrial capacities up to the volume of 2008. New houses are being built. Energy-efficient technologies are actively introduced. Environment is defended from harmful influence of a human.

Main emphasis of the conversation was made on the possibilities of expansion of cooperation in the sphere of development of monocities. The matter is that Great Britain has successful experience of realization of programs of modernization of diversified cities. As Anne Pringle noted, experts of the United Kingdom were ready to share their knowledge, they had to solve the problems of restructing, especially in coal branch and shipbuilding.

Discussion of perspective directions of cooperation between Great Britain and Sverdlovsk oblast touched the possibilities of joint efforts on development in the Urals modern logistical centers, industrial parks, creation of new enterprises, first of all - in the sphere of small-scale business. As Alexander Misharin underlined, one of the purposes was to draw 35 percent of economically active population of the region into small-scale business. According to the governor, it is one of the most perspective solving of the problem of monocities where less 12-15 percent of the population are involved in this sphere. Special attention will be paid to development of small and average enterprises working in the sphere of innovative production.

It is necessary to notice that scientific and innovative spheres are of interest to cooperation of Sverdlovsk and British companies.

New joint projects in the sphere of mechanical engineering, machine-tool construction, chemical and medical branches can become a point of the application of common efforts. For example, technologies and experience of Great Britain can be useful for modernization of manufacturing equipment and creation of new machine-building enterprises in the Middle Urals.

Alexander Misharin invited British companies to take part in new project of Sverdlovsk oblast - industrial exhibition-fair which should take place for the first time in the summer of 2010. Having accepted the invitation, Anne Pringle, by-turn, assured the head of the region that in the near future it was planned to increase quantity of commercial and industrial and other sectoral delegations that would allow the British businessmen, scientists, investors to familiarize themselves with the potential of Sverdlovsk oblast closer.

«Our investors know about potential of Russia and Sverdlovsk oblast and they are interested in the organization of long-term cooperation with you. Our investors always come with serious intentions and considerations about long prospect», - Anne Pringle underlined.

It is necessary to notice that it is not the first visit of Anne Pringle to the region, last time she visited Ekaterinburg in the spring of 2009. We will also add that official delegations exchanges with British party happen regularly. The third visit of minister-counselor on economic questions of Embassy of Great Britain in Russia madam Caroline Wilson is expected in the end of March. Since 2006 with assistance of Consulate general the Association of manufacturing technologies of Great Britain (MTA) works in the region. Its activity is directed at development of our cooperation in machine-building branch.

Great Britain is in the top twenty of foreign states - partners of Sverdlovsk oblast. In 2009 the trade turnover of Sverdlovsk oblast and Great Britain made 245.2 million dollars.
