The Paralympic Games in Vancouver came to the end last week-end. The Sverdlovsk sportsmen came back to the Middle Urals on the night of March, 24th.
Sverdlovsk Paralympic competitors won three gold, three silver and four bronze medals. Let's remind that this time as never before many representatives of the Middle Urals - five people took part in the Paralympic Games. They are biathlonist Alena Gorbunova (Ekaterinburg), Anna Burmistrova (Krasnoturyinsk - Ekaterinburg) and Alfis Makamedinov (Nevyansk district) who performed both in skiing race and in biathlon, skier Mikhalina Lysova (Nizhniy Tagil) and downhill skier Alexander Fedoruk (Revda).
The first medal was won by Anna Burmistrova (category «standing sportsmen with affection of support-motor apparatus»), who had left competitors far behind in biathlon race (Maya Loytinoiya from Finland lagged one minute and 35 seconds behind the champion).
In the same discipline Alena Gorbunova who had won silver in Turin Paralympic Games became the bronze prize-winner.
In the category «optically challenged», debutant of the Games Mikhalina Lysova won bronze medal in sprint in the first day of competitions, and as a result she was awarded a badge and certificate of honored master of sports.
Anna Burmistrova won the second gold in free style skiing race on 15 km. She also took the second place in biathlon on 12.5 kilometers, Mihalina Lysova - the third one.
Mikhalina Lysova became the silver prize-winner in classical skiing race on 5 kilometers and in ski sprint, and the champion as a part of Russian national team
in relay race 3х2.5 kilometers
Drop on the dangerous bend deprived Anna Burmistrova of triumph in free style skiing race on 5 kilometers. Skiing classical sprint brought Anna her latest (bronze) medal.
As a whole the Russian national team took first place in team rating of the Paralympic Games. Sportsmen won 38 medals (12 gold,16 silver and 10 bronze medals). By quantity of gold only Germany left us behind (13 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals).
